Our commitment

Florence & New Italian Art Company is committed to making florenceartcompany.com usable by as many people as possible, including customers who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, voice control, or browser settings for low vision or color blindness. We have carried out a focused remediation effort against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, and we continue to review and improve the site.

Conformance status

This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. “Partially conformant” means that some parts of the content do not yet fully meet the accessibility standard, and those specific parts are listed below under Known limitations, rather than left undisclosed.

Measures we have taken

  • Added a “skip to content” link so keyboard users can bypass repeated navigation on every page.
  • Added accurate, reviewed text descriptions to 303 of 305 product and content images site-wide.
  • Labeled previously-unlabeled form fields, buttons, and icons (navigation menu, search, newsletter sign-up, photo-gallery controls) so assistive technology announces their purpose.
  • Corrected the homepage’s heading structure so screen readers can navigate the page logically.
  • Added accessible labels to all fields on the Retailers and Contact Us forms, including the multi-part address field.
  • Added descriptive names to ambiguous links (e.g. replacing unlabeled “click here” links with a clear destination name).
  • Made phone numbers tap-to-call for mobile visitors.
  • Titled embedded third-party content (our Facebook panel) so it is announced correctly to assistive technology.

How we test

We use WAVE, an independent, third-party accessibility evaluation tool from WebAIM, as our primary measure of conformance. We also use the Equalize Digital Accessibility Checker internally to help identify additional issues and guide ongoing development work. All fixes are built and verified on a private staging copy of the site before being applied to the live site, behind full backups.

Feedback

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of florenceartcompany.com. If you encounter a barrier using this site, please reach out through our Contact page and let us know the page and the issue you experienced. We aim to respond and address accessibility feedback promptly.
